No text description is available for this image![146 ALBE ALBERT, of Srrassurcu, called Arcentinensis, lived in the 14th century, Author of-—A History or Chronicle, from the time of the Em- éperor Rodolphus I. 1270, to that of Charles TV. 1378. Ursticius pub- lished the whole in his Collection of German Historians; and there is usually joined to it the Fragment 6f a Chronicle, from the year 631 to 1267. — ALBERTANO, of Brescra, lived in the 13th century, in the reign of the Emperor Frederic I]. —His writings are, De Dilectione Dei, et Doctrina Loquendi et Tacendi. Antw. 1484, 1486, 1487, 4to.—Bastian de Rossi published an Italian edition, compared with several MSS. under the title of Trattati di Albertano, &c. Flor. 1610, 4to. a veryrare book, - There was a second edition, finely printed at Mantua, 1732, 4to. was born 1725; died 1758. Having finished his education, spent some years in England, where, after he had acquired the language, he wrote— ‘Thoughts on Hume’s Essays on Natural Religion; and on this occasion disguised himself under the name of Alethophilus Gottingensis.—On ship, Manners, and Customs of the Quakers. 1750. ALBERTI, Joun, a German Lawyer, was born at Wilmanstadt; died 1559.—He made an Abridgement of the Koran, with Critical Notes, 1543, 4to.—He published a New Testament in Syriac, from the Manuscript used dpy the Jacobites, in 1556, 4to. at the expense of the Emperor Ferdinand I. The 2d Epistle of Peter, the 2d and 3d of John, the whole of Jude, with the Apocalypse, are omitted. Some copies have the date of 1562.—He also composed a Syriac. Grammar, to which he prefixed a very curious preface. was born at Asse, in Holland, 1698.—He published, Observationes Philolo- gice in Sacros Novi Foederis Libros. Lugd. Bat. 1725, 8vo. ALBERTI, Leanper, a Dominican, and Provincial of his Order, was born at Bologna, 1479; died 1552. ALBERTI, Leon Baptista pr, an eminent Italian artist, was born at Venice in the end of the 14th, or beginning of the 15th century, and £died about 1485.—His work for which he is most famed is, De Re A- dificatoria, first published by his brother Bernard, 1485. ALBERTI, Sotomon, an Anatomist of some note, was born at Nurem- berg, 1540; died at Dresden, 1600.—Historia plerarumque Humani Cor- Wittemb. 1583, 8vo.— Tres Orationes. Nuremb. 1585, 8vo. containing some useful information on several parts of Natural History ; a work stil] in considerable estimation.— And, Schorbuti Historia, Wittemb. 1594, 4to. ALBERTI, Vatentine, Professor of Divinity at Leipsic, was born in Silesia, 1635; died 1697. His writings haye been most favourably receiv- ed, and frequently reprinted, as,—Compendium Juris Nature, against Puffendorff.—Interesse Precipuarum Religionum Christian—He also wrote, De Fide Hereticis Servanda. Weips. 1662, 4to. Two curious Dis- sertations. ALBERTI, pr Vitvanova, Francis p’, a very celebrated Italian Lex- icographer, was born at Nice, 1737; died at Lucca, 1800.—The success of the first three editions of his Dictionary encouraged bim to publish a fourth, enlarged and corrected. Marseilles, 1796, 2 vols. 4to.—Dizionario Uni- versale Critico Enciclopedico della Lingua Italiana. Lucca, 1797. Much esteemed, and to foreigners may supply the place of the Dictionary Del la Crusca. The Abbé Francis Federighi, his assistant in the work, completed a ‘new edition, to which the author had made considerable improvements and additions. It was published Lucca, 1803, 6 vols. 4to. ALBERTUS, Maenus, called also Atzerrus Trvronicus, Frater ALzertus DE Cononia, AtBertus Rariszonensis, and ALzErtus Grotus, of the family of the Counts of Bollsteedt, was born at Lavingen, in Suabia, according to some, in 1193, and to others in 1205. He was called Great by his cotemporaries, from his appearing to them such a prodigy of genius and learning; died 1280. Heisthe most voluminous Author both of his own age and those that preceded him, in philosophy, and those principally known Reprinted ab Eyb. Margarita Poética, seu Oratorum, Poétarum, Histori- corum; Philosophorum Eleganter dicta. Paris, about 1472. The types of this edition are Semi-Gothic, and the poetry is printed in long lines, simi- lar to prose. . Reprinted at Nuremb. per J. Sensenschmid. 1472, fol.
