![Birth Rate. During the last five years the Birth Rate has shown a continuous fall, the figures being as follows :— 1921 1922 1923 1924 1925 25-2 221 20-9 19-5 18-8 This steady drop in the Birth Rate is not, of course, peculiar to the last five years, but is merely an extension of a process which has been taking place for many years. As an instance of this, one might mention that the Birth Rate in Salford in 1885 was 37*6, so that in forty years tire rate has decreased by approximately 50 per cent. Infant Mortality Rate. The Infant Mortality Rate of 1925 is 105, as compared with 106 in 1921. The figures for the five years are as follows :—• ] 921 1922 1923 1924 1925 106 110 98 122 105 From these figures it will be seen that no material progress has been made during the five years under review in reducing the mortality rate of children under 1 year of age.
