    EXTRACT FROM PREFACE TO FIRST CHINESE EDITION This Pathology in Chinese aims at being an abridged trans¬ lation of Prof. Stengel’s work. The order of the original has for the most part been closely followed. Here and there statements' have been modified so as to bring the account of certain diseases up to date. The translator gratefully acknowledges valuable help received from Dr. Cousland who has seen the book through the press and on whom has devolved the onerous task of finally deciding on the terms employed, from Messrs. Chao, Leo, Tai, Lei and Tsou, from Dr. Logan who kindly revised the subject matter of the chapter on Helminthology and from Dr. P. S. Evans who pre¬ pared the first draft of chapters on the nervous system. The work is sent out with the hope that it may help Chinese students of medicine to understand the processes of disease and therefore be better able to undertake its treatment. PREFACE TO SECOND CHINESE EDITION This edition is a thorough revision of the former one. In the main it follows the order adopted by Prof. Stengel and Dr. Fox, but in dealing with some subjects the opinion of other authorities has been incorporated. Certain subjects such as Bacteriology, Par¬ asitology and Diseases of Metabolism have only been touched on very briefly as they are dealt with at length in other books published by the China Medical Association; so that their inclusion here did not seem necessary. In this translation the revised medical terminology passed by the General Scientific Terminology Committee of China has been used, and many new illustrations have been added. The translator wishes to thank his Chinese helpers, Mr. Leo Teh Ching, Mr. Chen Tso Ting and Mr. Chang Hsi Wu for their assistance in revising- the style of the Chinese and also Dr. Wang* Hwei.
