![- a - 5. Control of Communicable Diseases Notifications of Infectious Disease numbered 159 compared with 225 last year. Notifications were as follows:- Dysentery, 7; Erysipelas, 1; Food Poisoning, 10; Jaundice, Infective, 2; Measles, 111; Pneumonia, Acute Primary, 4; Puerperal Fever/Pyrexia, 1; Scarlet Fever, 3* There was a noticeable absence of Influenza. Liaison with the Laboratory. General Practitioners, etc. There is a twice-daily collection and delivery service for the Laboratory at Stirling Royal Infirmary, The Laboratory van calls at the Health Department, as well as the local Hospitals, early in the forenoon and again early in the afternoon, for the delivery of supplies, Laboratory Reports and the collection of specimens for examination. Copies of all positive reports on Infections are sent to the Medical Officer of Health. Vaccination and Immunisation Smallpox Vaccination as a routine measure in childhood was suspended as the risk of Smallpox in this Country is slight. Travel]ers to parts of the world where there is a considerable risk of Smallpox, should, of course, still be vaccinated. Vaccination and Immunisation continued to be carried out at the Child Welfare Clinics. About 40$ of the babies were immunised by Local Authority Staff and about 60$ by their own Doctors. As is usual, most of the school children were immunised by Local Authority Staff. Of the 1970 births, 73$ had been protected against Poliomyelitis and Diphtheria, Whooping Cough and Tetanus. Following the new Govermental recommendations not to vaccinate against Smallpox, the percentage so vaccinated fell to 25$ this year. Figures of all immunisations carried out are shown in Appendix No. 8. Measles Vaccination Seven hundred and twenty-nine children under the age of five and 425 children of school age were vaccinated, making a total of 1,154* Rubella Vaccination Rubella vaccination was given to 3^7 girls bom in the years 1958/59 and was also given to 09 females bom before 1957 who had requested the vaccination. Influenza Vaccination Influenza vaccine was again offered to Staff who are at special risk by reason of contact with patients, e.g. Doctors, Nurses, Home Helps, etc.. The number accepting this was 140.
