    to be up and down during the night. She must train herself to sleep lightly and without snoring. Out-door exercise she will probably have a chance to take for an hour, once or more a week, after the first ten days, at any rate; but should there be no one in the family who can be trusted with the mother and child, the nurse must in such cases adapt herself to her surroundings, and take her fresh air in another room by an open window. The nurse in general must be cheerful and kind with every one,—not too professional, not standing on her own dignity; willing to lend a helping hand when she can, even if it is not her place to do such and such things. No woman, however superior she may be, will ever lessen her dignity by such kindly concessions.
