    There are two forts brought over to us; oUe from Per fa and the Ea[l-Indies; the other front Turk/, as from Lejfr A fa, (or Natolia) Smyrna* Aleppo, &C. I. That which is brought front Eafi-India, Perfidy Surat, 6cc. is (as 1 am inform’d) made of the Leaves and Stems of the Poppy, and is, 1. More full of Filth within it, ( for the outficfe is not ib much to be regarded, becaule of Accu dents.) 2. It is not lb uniform, fmooth, and fupple, but harfii and rugged 3. It is not fo readily diffoivable in Water. 4. The Indian is brought over m larger Pieces4 ^ It is not brought lb wrapt in Leaves as the Turky Opium is. Bontius fays, that they make it of the Stems and Leaves^ if lb, it muft be much worle than the Turky Opiumj that is made of the Heads and Leaves. II. Among thole forts that are brought out of Turk/, (and indeed any forts of Opium) 1. That is beft that is moft hitter, hot, and biting* 2. The lighter, whiter, and clearer its Flame is* when it burns, the better it is. 3. The more uniform, even, fmooth, tough, yield& ing, and complying it is to be wrought, or brought to any form, the better it is, 4. The more it gives, upon, or againft moijt Wea* tber, or in a moift Air of any kind, and the bet¬ ter, Ipeedier, freer, and more perfectly it diflolves in Water, the better it is. y. The redder the Tintture is that it gives in Wa- ter. Spirit of Wine, or any Menjlruum, the better it is; and ’eis never good if it gives only ayellow? Tincture* fiu$ /
