    Secondly 3 Indolence, or Exemption from Painy is eaufed by nothing more than want of Spirits, as in Paralytical Cafes, Stupors, ObflruBions, or Com- preffions of the Nerves, Syncopes, Leipothymies, De- Uquiums, Faintings after Bleeding, and Sleep; which (as was (aid) is fo much caufed by lofs of Spi¬ rits, &C\ ■ ■ . - . , Thirdly, Fluxes are fiopt, or moderated, by no¬ thing better than Sleep, which generally (as was (aid) proceeds from lofs of Spirits; What alfo fops, or moderates Fluxes, more than want of the Senfe of the Irritation of Humour si And what takes away Senfe more than want of Spirits? Thus want of Senfe by the abfence of the Spirits^ in Paralytical Intefimes, flops Fluxes ; Thus fails a Paralytical Bladder to exprefs the Urine. So a Valfie of the Membratits, that include the Glan¬ dules, muff (as in Sleep, which relaxes them) flop, or moderate all Defluxions, Catarrhs, &c* hecaufe they are not fenfible of the Irritation of the Humour by Quantity, or Quality ^ which Irritation caufes the Defluxions or Catarrhs, by ex¬ citing the Membranes, to contract, and thereby to (queeze put the Humours contain’d in the Glan¬ dules Fourthly, The (fompofure cf the Spirits is pro¬ cured mainly by Sleep, which all lofs of Spirit^ (as was (hewn) inclines us to; (b Bleeding, which dminifies the Spirits, com pole their Fury in Fe¬ vers, Deliriums, Madnefs, &c. Fifthly, Ferfpiration is caufed by nothing more than Sleep • for we perlpire twice as much in Sleep, as when we watch, as is mqft manifeftly demonftrable by the Statick Experiments of Weighing People} nor is Ferfpiration ever (b great as in Deliquiums, Syncopes, Leipothymies, and fuch like deadifh Cafes, which are caufed by di- minifying, or difabling cf the Spirits, nay, ’tis fo in Animals9
