If (after all) any fuch brisk EffeB did ever happen, it mult be either not regarded, or if obferved, (which is no way likely, as was fhewn) y ou may be fure (for the many plain Reafons, and Caufes aforefaid) that it was not imputed to Stu- pifying Qpium% (as all efteem it) but to any other Cau[ey or Accident, rather than to a Thing wall known to have quite contrary EffeBs. For In* fiance: If the Sick Perfon happened to he good humour'ds (of which he is feldom capable, and utterly in¬ capable of all or moll of the other brisk EffeBs, as Euphory,Promptitude to Venus,Exertion of Courage it was either paffed by as an ordinary Jhing 0f Courfe, and fo not heeded, or elfe imputed to Refrejhment by Sleep, Eafe from Pain, or fome A- mendment as to the Difeafe; or, indeed, to any Thing, rather than Difpiriting and Stupifying Opium, that is fb far (in all Opinion) from exciting the Spirits, that all affirm, conclude, and agree, that it diminijhes or difables them. The like is to be faid of any of the lively Efi fiSts, in cafe they happen, and are obferv’d ; Tho? I do not fee how they can, fo (at leaf!) as any Stander by will refer it to Opium; befides, that as to (bme of the brisk EjfeBs, (efpecially that of Vencty )
