Baths of Brimftone and Bitumen are very efficacious in this cafe, ufed both to the Head, and the whol Body. Alfo in an old Headacb, fweating Deco&ions are very good, and famous Authors declare that ma¬ ny have been cured thereby. Which not prevailing, ‘Mercatus is bold to fly to the ufe of Stibium, and commends it highly in his fkft Book of rbe Cure of internal Dileafes, and the eighth Chapter, But in an old grief, it is better to ftrengthen cfce head*often, than to ufe coo many Evacuations: Therefore Pouders and Caps, and other topick or external Medicines are very neceffary before mentioned in the Cure of the cold Di¬ ftemper of the Brain. But Pouders are more commendable, becaufe the vertue of a Cap is not fo much communicated to the Brain, and the pain may beencreafed by the filth which is concra&ed by the long wearing of them.
