Very fine large copy of this EXCEEDINGLY RARE typographical monument of the early Florentine press. EDITIO PRINCEPS, and the only edition printed in the 15th century. Described in “300 Notable Books” as follows: “The first book printed by Nicolaus Laurentii de Alemania (of the diocese of Breslau) at Florence. The type was only used for this one book, and is the only Gothic type used by the printer. In the next year it was in the hands of a printer at Colle.” 219 1485. Albertus (Leo Bapt. de) De re aedificatoria libb. X, swssia, green morocco gilt back sm. folio Hain *419, Proctor 6131. 204 ll. roman characters, initials painted in red and blue. EDITIO PRINCEPS, and the first printed book on Architecture. The first two and the last ll. have been mended in the margins, and there are a few slight wormholes, otherwise a large, sound and perfect copy. On the last leaf, be- neath the poem to the reader, is the autograph of “ Georgii An- thonti Vespucii lib.” the uncle and tutor of Amerigo Vespucci, to whose eminent scholarship the renowned navigator owed his great knowledge of cosmography and astronomy.
