Venetiis, in aedibus Aldi Manutii, mense Decembri, 1499 x Epirio PRINCEPS. |Numerous fine full-page and other outline woodcuts after designs attributed variously to Giov. Bellino, Car- puccio, Botticelli, etc. (but now generally thought to be by Giov. Bellino), and fine ornamental initials ; the Priapus plate is slightly soiled and one cut is rudely coloured in red. Some pages are a little stained and wormed, and sig. V viii is slightly torn in inner margins. But for these minor defects, this is a very large clean and sound copy (124 by 8#in.) with the edges untrimmed, and with the genuine leaf of errata at the end. 338 Catharina da Siena (Sancta) Epistole devotissime de ... adunate insemi con grandissima diligentia et faticha per spatio di circa uinti anni DS os. frate Bartholomeo da Alzano da Bergamo, claret morocco, g. @. sm. folio. Stampato in la Inclita Cita de Venetia in Casa de Aldo Manutio Romano a di xv Septembrio, 1500 *,* With the fine full-page woodcut of St. Catherine, and many wood- cut initials. The first leaf has been repaired, causing the loss of 7 or 8 letters of the text, and these have been neatly filled in by hand. But for this, a very good copy of one of the rarest Aldines, and the first of only two productions of this year. 339 Lucretius Carus (T.) De rerum natura libri VI, nuper emendati per Hieron Avancium, old russia, y. e. by Roger Payne, from M. Wodhull’s library sm. 4to. Venetiis, accuratiss. Apud Aldum, mense Decem. 1500 *,.* The first Aldine edition and the fourth of Lucretius ; revised by Avancius on Th. de Ragazonibus edition of 1495. One of only two works issued in 1500. Shghtly wormed, otherwise good copy [see lot 136]. 340 Philostratus (Flavius) De Vita Apollonii Tyanei lib. VIII. Tidem libri Latini interprete Alem. Rinuccino; Eusebius contra Hieroclem ; idem Latinus interp. Zenobio Acciulo, Gr. et Lat. 2 vol. in 1, sprinkled calf gilt by Riviere Venetis, in aedibus Aldi, 1501-2-4 *.* Top margins of a few leaves waterstained, otherwise a good sound copy. See Renouard with reterence to the three dates. 341 Philostratus. Another copy, but containing only De Vita Apollonii Tyanei lib. VIII, Graece, brown morocco, deep inside borders, g. e. with Aldine anchor on sides Venetiis, apud Aldum mense Martio, 1501 * * Fine copy, on thick paper, with large margins. 342 Picus (J. F.) De imaginatione, old calf . sm. 4to. Venettis, apud Aldum Romanum mense Aprili, 1501 *,* Very rare. Renouard compares it to the Bembo of 1495 for beauty and rarity, but the types are not entirely the same. Slightly stained in some margins.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b31676984_0083.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
