    confiderable Quantities of thin pituitous Matter, if the Breath was not fetid, and the Patient had no Difgufl to his Food, if the Eyes retained their proper Luftre, ail was judged to be lecure. On the other hand, if the Luflre of the Eyes was confiderably faded (z)y if the ex¬ ternal cedematous Tumor was very large, if the Breath flunk, if the Fauces were livid or black, with a Coma or Delirium, if with thefe the Patient had an Averfion to his Nourifh- ment, and his Breathing became difficult of laborious, the Danger was judged to be ex-, treme. It was not obferved that the Difeafe had any ftated Crifis; or that the Signs of Reco-* very, or Death, appeared on any certain Day. Some died on the firft, others on the fecond, third, and on every Day, to the feventh; tho’ the greateft Part died before the fourth (tf).
