    VCcffij, but retards the Progrefs of the Ul¬ cers, by walhing off the putrefactive corroding Virus, and prevents a large Train of very dan¬ gerous Symptoms (feep. 62,) j and has there¬ fore been ftrenuouily infilted on by feverai writers, by Mercatus efpecially (0). If the Sloughs are large, and call off flowly, they may be touched with Mel /Egypt ia cum, by Means of an armed Probe j or if the Con¬ dition of the Fauces is fuch, that this cannot conveniently be done, a Spoonful of the fol¬ lowing Mixture may be injedted, and retained in the Throat, as long as the Patient can en¬ dure it; the Parts may then be walhed two or three Times with the Gargle alone. ♦ $£ Gargarifmifrafcrtpt. gij.
