As an advocate of kind and intelligent treatment of live stock, no member of the profession has been more consistent than Professor Walley ; and the little book before us, as well as others from the same pen, shows how thoroughly he understands the habits and characteristics of the domestic animals. In this little volume we have, partly in rhjane and partly in prose, many interesting anecdotes of dogs and their sagacity, and very faithful descriptions of the troublous lives of many horses and cows. Its tone will harmonise well with the feelings of those who are habitually kind to animals ; whilst if it should come into the hands of any who, from loss of temper or ignorance, frequently abuse their dumb companions and servants, we would fain hope it may have a corrective tendency.—The Farmers' Gazette. This is the subject of a hrocheure of some sixty pages, and being devoted to the discussion of the lives of our most important farm animals, by a recognised veterinary authority, we confidently predict for it no small measure of success. The life stories are told in verse, yet they are by no means fictitious. They are true to life, and convey to the reader much information, which scientific study only could impart. There is also a di.scursive chapter on animal characteristics, which is pleasant, interesting reading.—Farminrj World.
