Five cases wore renoved to tho Local Infirmary for treatment. In addition to the fourteen diagnosed cases of venereal disease, cards wore issued to a number of presumably affectckl seamen for free treatment at one of the County Council Clinics. .1 doubt, however, whether any availed then selves of this treatment owing to distance, but a number received treatment privately from Lo„eal Pruc tit loners. The members of the Cormittee are aware that the natter of pfofedingn. treat:iont for venereal diseases locally has been under discussion by ti e County Councilbut. so far no arrangements have been riade.g ,• i . ** t ^ In accordance;'with iiihlstiy of Health Circulars 8648 and 8668, strict supervision has been maintained at the Port due to the occurrence of Tophus Fever and Baiallpox, both abroad .and in the British Isles, v. „ *• * , ♦ 4« lieu sure s against Rodents. . • • • . • •» * , i* -• ? • * ' - During the year (Pune) the Ilinistry of Health approved of the recog¬ nition of the Port for the issue of Doratis at:, op. Certificates, and the Sanitary Inspector (hr. fumes-) received a course -of instruction , in the work under- the Liverpool Port Lealth Authority, • • «* • * >.! . Three Fxonption Certificates x/ere issued, but owing to the condition of the harbour foreign traffic was reduced to a minimum. -However, when conditions are restored to normal.and Certificates are required, shipoxmors will be saved nxidlH inconvenience now that the Port has boon approved for this purpose. All vessols are carefully examined for the presence of rats, and on one occasion onlx/- was it necessary to require rat guards fixing to mooring ropes as a precautionary measure. The nature of cargoes * does not encourage rat breeding, and, generally, ships, harbour <firid stores have boon maintained in a satisfactory condition. v 5.
