About this work

Description

This print shows the statue of George II in Roman dress by Rysbrack in the centre of the court, near to the river. This was carved from a block of white marble, captured from the French. Sir John Jennings, Governor of the Hospital, paid for the statue, which was finished in 1735. See M. I. Webb, Michael Rysbrack sculptor, London, 1954, pp 162-3

It is a large magnificent, and regular building, embellished with rich carved work and fine devices.
