COMPARABILITY OF RATES., The figures for deaths include those of members of the armed Forces who were stationed in the area. The population figures given are home populations (i.e. including members of the Armed Forces stationed in the area). The area comparability factors for use with crude birth and death rates contain adjustments for boundary changes and make allowances for the way in which the sex and age distribution of the local population differs from that for England and kales as a whole. In addition,^ the death area comparability factors have been adjusted specifically to take accouru^ of the presence of any residential institutions in each area, Then local crude birth and death rates are multiplied by the appropriate area comparability factor, they are comparable with the crude rate for Eng]and and hales or with the corresponding adjusted rate for any other area for that year. 1) Live Births.
