![offenders to be eoinmitted to prison, tlicre to be imprisoned only, or to be imprisoned and kept to hard labour, accord- ing to the discretion of such Magistrate, for any term not exceeding two calendar months, where the amount of the fine shall not exceed fifty rupees, and for any term not exceeding four calendar months, where the amount of the fine shall not exceed one hundred rupees, and for any term not exceeding six calendar months in any other case, the commitment to be determinable in each of the cases aforesaid upon payment of the amount of the fine and of the costs attending the information and convic- tion. A share not exceeding one moiety of every fine imposed and recovered under this Act shall be awarded to the informer. No proceedings shall be taken for the recovery of any such fine without an order of the Gov- ernment, or an order in w'riting of a Post Master Gen- eral, or of an Officer in charge of a Post Office. LIX. If any servant of the East India Company, who shall be employed by the said Compa- ciiacJmpanyS ny in the Post Office Department, or ting ofteneys in for- g];na,ll he appointed a vender of postage stamps or entrusted by the said Com- pany or any of the said local Governments with the sale of postage stamps within the dominions of any foreign Prince or state in alliance with the said Company, in which a post shall be established by the said Company, shall Avithin the dominions of such Prince or State com- mit any act hereby prohibited, or omit to do any act hereby required to be done, by any person similarly em- ployed, appointed or entrusted as aforesaid ivithin the territories under the Government of the said Company, such servant of the said Company shall be guilty of an offence, and, on conviction thereof, shall .be punished in the same manner as if such act had been done or omitted within the said last mentioned territories, and every such person may be convieted and punished either by fine or N 3*](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b28055524_0685.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
