![the totals included 25 males and 30 females received under contract from the Essex County Asylum. The diminution in the number of County and City patients is to be accounted for by the facts that the death rate was unusually high, and that the admissions were twenty-seven below the average of the previous ten years. The following table indicates the number of patients who at the time of admis¬ sion were deemed curable, and the principal characteristics of most of the incurable cases. One criminal lunatic, an epileptic, was admitted from Her Majesty’s Prison at Worcester, having been found insane whilst on remand under the charge of committing arson and assaulting the police. Forty-two males and 34 females were on admission stated to be suicidally disposed ; 80 males and 68 females were believed to be dangerous to others ; and 8 males and 11 females were cases of re-admission.
