    [ ] the Good and Benefit of another j this has th$ true Charaderiftick of a charitable Ad, becaule it does not confine itfelf to our own Advantage, purfues no by or felfifli Ends, but like the Sun ex¬ tends its Influence every where, carries not only Light, but a kindly Heat and nourilhing Warmth along with it. This Ad of Charity arifeth from that com¬ municated Goodnefs, which was firfl: deriv'd to our Souls from the Divine Love, that connatural Principle which from a due Contemplation of the Divine communicated Goodnefs will eafily lead us into the like Ddlres of being good to others, for 'tis the firfl: Property of Goodnefs, to be Com¬ municative of itfelf. T O be kindly affeEtioned one to another, tho' frequently inculcated, yet is no new Precept of the Gofpel ,• but a natural Principle created with and implanted in us: and therefore the frequent Enforcement of it, is only to let us fee how far we had deviated from the common Principles of Hu¬ manity, and make us fenfible that the Grace of God is neceflary for the correding in us, the Errors and Corruptions of our Nature. This Ad of Charity therefore upon this Account may truly be laid to be properly Chriftian, for though it has a Foundation in Nature ; yet is it beft improv'd under the advantageous Principles of Chriftianity* Of this we have a very inftrudive Inflance in St. Taul to King Agrippa; for when St. Taul’s powerful Speech had fo far fhaken the King's Re- folutions, that he confeft, Thou almoft perfwadeft me to be a chriftian 5 St. Taul return d this gene* D tons
