    SIGMA Xi, THE SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH SOCIETY OF NORTH AMERICA HUGHES LABORATORIES CHAPTER 21 December 1978 Dr. Francis Crick The Salk Institute P.O. Box 1809 San Diego, CA 92112 Dear Dr. Crick: I am delighted that you have consented to be our guest speaker at the meeting of the Hughes Laboratories Chapter of Sigma Xi on Tuesday, March 13, 1979. Generally our audience is composed primarily of chemists, physicists, and engineers and their guests, and usually about 50 people attend. However, for this meeting I expect a much larger audience, and I am sure that quite a few members of surrounding Sigma Xi Chapters also will want to hear your lecture. Our meeting location has not yet been determined, but it will be in the West Los Angeles or Santa Monica area. The MiraMar Sheraton at Wilshire Blvd and Ocean Avenue has been a frequent meeting place for our group and may be selected for March. A social hour will be scheduled to start at 6:00 PM, with dinner following at 7:00, and your lecture beginning at 8:00 or 8:30. Usually our speakers plan a lecture to last approximately an hour with an additional 15-20 minutes for questions and answers. We can provide almost any of the standard projectors that you might want to use with your talk. Would you please send me a brief synopsis (about 5 or 6 sentences) of your lecture on Split Genes? I would like to use this in preparing our meeting announcements. Also, please let me know what projector you might need, and whether I can help you with your travel arrangements. As I stated by telephone, we will provide an honorarium of $150 and pay for your travel expenses, as is customary for Sigma Xi National Lecturers.
