    With a marriage rate of only 9*9 per 1000, which was the figure for Halifax, compared with 14*9 for England and Wales during 1908, we cannot expect to have a birthrate anything like that of the country generally. The following table shows the number of illegitimate births registered in the Borough during the past 18 years, together with the rate per cent, which these births bear to the total number of births.
