    The results of the State Examinations, which took place in April and September, were satisfactory, although in comparison with the previous year a lower percentage of passes was recorded in respect of the State Preliminary Examinations, which showed 70-9 per cent, passes for Part x, and 87-2 per cent, for Part 2. The results of the State Final Examinations were highly creditable—91-2 per cent, passes being recorded. Thirty-eight candidates sat for the Central Midwives Board Examinations and 69-3 per cent, passes were recorded. The Student-Nurses’ Unit of the Royal College of Nursing, formed in 1944, continues to function well. Towards the end of the year a Hockey Club was formed. At the close of the year three large adult wards and one floor in the children’s block are empty. This situation is due to the serious shortage of nurses. Measures to reduce this deficiency are receiving earnest attention. ST. JAMES’S HOSPITAL (NORTH).
