    through the wounds; deep incifions ought never to be praclifed, left a mortification fhould entile. Whenever icarificat'ens are made, it will be proper to b?.the them frequently with a warm infufion of* emollient hrrbs, to which a fna;l quantity of camphorated fpiiits of wine has been added. In the afcites, when it is found neceffary to give purga- tives, half a drachm of cream of tartar, and fifteen grains of jalap, may be taken for the purpofe. The evacuation which will be attended with the greatclt fafety and advantage, i* that from the urinary paffiges; wherefore diuretic medicines will be proper in both fpecies of the dropfy; and even if they Ihould not produce a quick and apparent effect, they ought reverthelefs to be continued throughout the whole ot the difeafe ; they may be prefcribed in any of the fubfequent forms: Fifteen grains, or a fcruple of diuretic fait may be taken four times a day in a wine glafs full of an infufion of worm- wood, muftard feed,junips r berries, horferadim, and orange ptel, in the proportion efabout half an ounce ot each to a quart of white wine : or four grains of the powder of dry fquill?, or ten of cream of taitar and five of nitre, may be mixed in a little of the above infufion, or in a cupful of tea, drawn cither fiom hoiferadilh or ginger. We may give diuretics in the form of a di aught, if more agrr eab'e to the patient. Mix half a diachm of the oyxmel of fquills with an ounce of mint water, then add ten or twelve drops of the oil of juniper, and direct this to be taken three or four times a day, drinking a glaf-ful of the former or following ii.fufi:>n fume little tine afterwards: Take of wormwood, gentian root, cardamon feeds, ju« • niper berries, and orange peel, each half an ounce, fteep them in a qua t of white wine for a few days, and then ftrain off the liquor for ufe.
