About this work

Description

Begins with an excerpt from "La Mission Jamot au Cameroun, 1926-32" then turns to the present day problem of trypanosomiasis in Africa, focusing on Uganda, where the disease reached a peak in 1990. A two-pronged attack is necessary, and the film shows how entomologists set up fly traps in infested areas while Medecins Sans Frontieres teams make repeated visits to villages to reinforce the connection between the tsetse fly and sleeping sickness and to diagnose and treat the illness. The aim is to prevent any village from becoming a reservoir of the disease. It is also necessary to be on the alert for the importation of the disease by political or economic refugees.
