![by the passions, his opinion appears undecided. He has recourse to the ganglions, and hesitates what function to ascribe to them. Sometimes he considers them as knots, as ligatures, so tight as to intercept all communication between the heart and Sensorium Commune, in the calm and peaceful state of the system, but not suf-. ficient fo prevent the Sensorium re- acting more or less powerfully on the heart in the agitatiou of the passions.* Sometimes he seems to be- lieve that the interception is complete and con- stant, and that-it is by. the nerves of the eighth pair that the passions ‘affect the heart ;+ and he seems to adopt the opinion: of Winslow,{ re- newed by Winterl,§ Johnstone,||.
