CHRONIC eruptions of the flan have been diftin-J guifhed by the general and indifcriminate appellation] of Scurvy; a difeafe with which they have little con-| neclion. We (hall examine here a few of the mofij common of them that occur in practice. I. Shingles. {Herpes.) 1. Herpes confifts in an eruption of broad itch fpots, here and there, over the fkin, of a whitifh o red colour, which at la.1 unite together, and difcharg a,thin ferous fluid. After a certain time, they for fcurfy fcales which peel off, and leave the fuiface bej| low red ; the fame appearances, however, are apt t be renewed in a fucceflive feries till the difeafe is eithe cured, or fpontaneoufly departs. The health, at th fam-2 time, remains, in other refpecls, perfectly found but fornetimes thefe cutaneous difeafes are obferved t be attended with deprefuon of fpirits. This difeafe commonly attacks in fpring, and depar in winter, as the cold weather fets in. Women a more fubjecl: to it than the other fex. It is entirely difeafe of the fkin, and is diftinguiihed from itch b a the iize of the fpots, and, at the fame time, from bein rarely contagious. * 2. its caufes, like thofe of moll other cutaneous diii
