![£ io ] exertions of whom, tboufands of my'fellow-crea- tures have been fnatched from an untimely grave, for I believe it to be an awful and a melancho- ly truth, that previoufly to the eftablifhment of Societies upon this excellent plan, tboufands of our fellow creatures have been configned to the tomb, with the unextinguished fparks of life re- maining in them, and perhaps many of them in an unprepared ftate to meet their Creator in the world of fpirits. The Philadelphia Humane fociety was found- ed in the Year 1780, by the laudable exertions of a few Gentlemen in this city, a who met toge- ther and invited their Brethren to unite with them in the noble caufe of humanity. They were fuccefsful in this invitation, and formed a union with men, whofe memories mail ever be dear to thofe who have exerted themfelves in the principles of this worthy Inftitution. A partial fufpenfion of their operations took place previoufly to the year 1787, but divers of the Members ftill keeping the grand object in view, reafibciated, and called again upon theirfel- a Robert Parrifh was the firft perfon who ftepped for- ward to eftablifh this fociety.—Drs. Rufh, Bond, B.
