The work of the only man who can claim with validity to be Sir William Osier’s literary executor—a man with a lifetime of clinical and medical education experience—the great volume has here been wholly modernized, although the original basic structure, which justly has made the book famous, has been carefully preserved. First, upon examination, you will discover that additions and rewritings have been compensated by the judicious deletion of old or unessential material. The work has not been increased in size, and rather than a bulkily expanded book for reference library purposes, is a concise and handy text. Secondly, and of signal importance, is the fact that treatment has been materially expanded, whereas older chapters have been given just the proper amount of space in accordance with present day needs.
