Jacques Fa- bian Gautier d’Agoty (born about 1717) was an assistant of Le Blon (the inventor of printing in colours). His anatomic illustrations, while they may perhaps be fascinating to the layman, on account of their size and vivid execution, impress the critical observer with their arrogance, but they will always retain their value in the history of art and especially in the history of anatomic illustrations ’’ (Choulant-Frank). — Scme leaves and plates have been cut out and most carefully mounted on contemporary paper without affecting in any way plates or text, the copy having the usual extremely large measures of 760 X 585 mm. Besides the magnificent plates in unusually fine and intact condition. Blank portions of the upper margins of last seven leaves strengthened, a few waterstains on last leaves. — Rare. 52. GENGA, B. Apparently first edition of that uncommon work on the ‘‘ Lapis philosophorum ’’ which was published later in the ‘ Theatrum chemicum’. The first part contains Greverus’ Secretum, the second ‘ Alani dicta’, translated into Latin by Justus # (van) Balbian, the third and the fourth part contain another treatise on the ‘ Lapis’ and some alchemistical poetry.
