    often be able to do, were we sufficiently attentive to the state of the shin. 3dly, I may mention Dyspepsia. Almost every body knows something by experience of the unpleasantness of Dyspepsia. I shall not describe its symptoms : the very mention of the name will be sufficient to call up a faithful portraiture of its horrors to the minds of many of its sub- jects. The stomach sympathises most deeply with the skin, and the skin with the stomach. The mention of a single fact will be sufficient to show the truth of what I am stating. When the stomach is nauseated, the skin is pale and cold: and nettle-rash is frequently the conse- quence of indigestion. If, then, the sympathy between these parts be so great and so direct, it is not surprising that attention to the one should have so great an influence on the condition of the other. To the Dyspeptic, then, I say, carefully regulate your diet, daily take sufficient exer- cise, and habitually repair to the Bath, and, believe me, you will but very rarely have occasion to consult your Physician. 4thly, I may mention Nervous complaints. This class of diseases is a very extensive one. I shall not attempt to enumerate its varieties. I will only remark that Bath- ing, either warm, cold, or tepid, may be had recourse to with advantage, in almost every variety of this Protean malady, from Hypochondriasis to Hysteria. It may be beneficially used either as a preventive or a curative means. When persons are suffering from what we call low spirits—when the world seems a blank to them—when old friends are forsaken, and old amusements abandoned —when the beauties of nature and the wonders of art alike lose their interest—when the grasshopper is a burden, and the softest notes of melody are harsh and discordant to the ear—when the eye has lost its wonted speculation, and, in restlessness and weariness, every morning the me- lancholy patient exclaims, “ Would God it were evening! ’ ’ and every evening, “ Would God it were morning!”— there is generally some degree of congestion in the in- ternal blood-vessels.
