When an owner lias failed to com])lY with a notice to cany out sanitary improvements, the necessary works are then carried out hy the Corporation on the the instructions of the Health Committee under the Public Health Act, 1875, and the cost incurred is recovered from the owner. There was only one instance during the year in which action \\'as taken hy the C'orporation with regard to non-provision of a suthcient water closet, and when proceedings were about to be taken the owner ])aid for the work which-had been done. PPOSECUTIONS.
