About this work

Description

This documentary follows the lives of Clive and Joan Betts and their two teenaged daughters, Lucy and Hannah who have a rare genetic condition, Harlequin Ichthyosis (Ichthyosis, Lamellar) which causes their skin to over grow. Overnight they grow as much skin as a normal person would in 14 days, meaning that at the start of each morning they have to undergo a painful bathing and scrubbing routine which takes two hours. Hannah is now 17, making her the oldest sufferer with this condition in the UK. We also meet Sam and Clive Bowen, their daughter Dana and their new baby who also have the condition.
