The value of the services of a physician or surgeon may depend upon a variety of circum- stances, as upon the nature and character of the disease or other physical or mental affliction of the patient; the amount of knowledge and skill required in the treatment; the circumstances under which the services were rendered; the difficulties and expenses attending them, and the responsibilities devolving upon him : See Com- missioners V. Chambers, 75 Ind. 409 ; Coms. v. Brewingtown, 74 Ind. 7. In a recent case it was held that a physician, claiming for his services, may properly consider the patient's ability to pay.
