![each other, or conspecies, and it is remarkable that Ceylon examples are not so dark coloured as are those from the mainland of South India, nor so grey as are Himalayan specimens. In Tardus melaleucus, J. E. Gray {IT. niveiceps, Swinhoe), of China, however, we have the same type, with the coral-red bill, hut the black cap replaced by pure white; a remarkable variation, which is repeated among the black-headed and white-headed cinnamon- coloured munia grosbeaks.
