![The figures for the last ten years are : 1914 1913 1912 1911 1910 1909 1908 1907 1906 1905 127 86 54 87 176 80 160 93 119 142 which give an average infantile mortality rate for the last ten years of 112 per 1000 births. But though the average is not so high, nevertheless the rate is too high for a small urban district, and as much of this mortality is preventable, it is necessary to strive to improve it, and to prevent many of these infant deaths. The following table shows the nature of the diseases which have caused this mortality in past years, and also where the large increase has occurred during the present year I nfant Infant [nfantile ] nfantile Deaths Deaths f lortality f klortality Groups of Diseases Diseases unuer under perloco per 1000 I I year bit ths births 910 igi-t 910 —igty 1914 Measles 2 0 Infectious Diseases Whooping Cough I 3 4 4 6'i 317 Diphtheria 0 0 1 ''Tuberculous 1 tuberculous J Diseases | Meningitis Abdominal 0 0 Tuberculosis 2 5 0 0 IO’2 O'O 1 Other Tuberculous Diseases 0 0 Respiratory Diseases Bi'onchitis Pneumonia 6 4 10 2 2 4 20'4 317 Diseases mainly .
