![An excellent little book entitled TM-Evolution of frh?c nalysis : An Historical Sketch of the Clinical ExaminaX ioi>,of Urine, was issued by Messrs. Burroughs Wellcome] ind Co., on the occasion of the Birmingham meeting. IrJ i loreword Mr. Henry S. Wellcome states that for nany years he has been engaged in researches on the early pnethocis employed in the healing art, both among civilized jancl the uncivilized peoples; and he has had in his mind ^or some time past the organization of an exhibition illus- ftrating the history of medicine, chemistry, pharmacy, and [the allied sciences. It is intended that this project shall ftafce concrete shape at the same time as the International jMedical Congress to \>e held in London^ in 1913. The ^booklet on the evolution of urine analysis, which is pro-1 iusely illustrated with reproductions from nictures in! mediaeval illuminated manuscripts and old wJodcuts and' jpictures, gives proof of wide research, and contains within a small compass a mass of interesting information. \\ e venture to call attention to some trivial errors. In the frontispiece, a reproduction from a MS. of the tiftoenth century, the title is given as SS. Cosmos and Damian • the more usual form of the first of these names is Cosing ; as such it appears in the list of saints in the Canon eff the Mass.- St. Cosmas gave his name to the famous surgical College of Saint Come in Paris. Again, in the chapter on Uroscopy in the Middle Ages, mention is made of the Salernan physicians ; - Sajj&l&m is the usual form, as we see in the mulieres Salermttmac, the medical women of - Salerno, so often quoted by mediaeval writers. -De minus on p. 21, Supremtoj Regio at p. 47, - La femme hydropiiQi^ (p.69T^ro obvious miwmts. The great name of - ScalZiger (p. 55) js endowed wl a superfluous letter, ^^ndre Vesale '(p. 67) is a curious rendering of I the illustrious name oi ' Vej5a2|6s> who was not a Frenchman. The book whets the appetitk of the antiquarian for the treasures which will be! ^splayed at the Medical Historical Exhibition. * 1 - hM or* _ _T , * _x/](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b2045773x_0007.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
