The unity of Hellas, as to market and as to moral culture, is observable, as well as the inclusion of Ionia in the term. Possibly the whole story may have been preserved in a poetic form, from which these lines are a quotation. Anjnvay, the story of Glaukos, and the oracular response, preserved in it, or preserving it, ex- hibit Hellenic morality in a remarkable phase. The observation that death comes alike to the just and to the unjust has been made: likewise the observa- tion that the wicked man flourishes at times to a remarkable extent.
