George Dance, junior, was a successful city architect who travelled in Italy as a youth, where he learned skill in drawing. Later in life he amused himself by making pencil portraits of his contemporaries. These were etched by Daniell and published as 'A collection of portraits sketched from the life since the year 1793'. The book as issued contained seventy-two portraits, but a further eighty-four were made by Daniell, proofs of which are in the British Museum. See W. Roberts "Portraits by George Dance" in Notes and queries, 9th ser., iv, 1899, 1-3.
