These important papers covering the whole field of magnetism and electricity have been of great influence on Clark Maxwell in his investi- gations of electro magnetism. The first edition is of great rarity. The edition usually found in commerce is a reprint. Cloth very slightly damaged at top of back. 5214 The same. London, B. Quaritch, 1839-1855 £3 3s. 8vo. 3 vols. A defence of that famous piece of quackery, Perkins’ Metallic Tractors, which were supposed to exert a magnetic influence on the patient with strong attacks on John Haygarth and others who proved their futility. Reference is made to galvanism and Adini’s experiments. This first American edition is rare and not listed in the Wheeler Gift Catalogue. 524 Franklin.
