Description
Woodcut illustrating the 17th century Chinese medical text Yangyi daquan (Great Compendium of The Medicine of Sores) Gu Shicheng, from an edition published in 1901 (27th year of the Guangxu reign period of the Qing dynasty). It shows the disease location for danzhong ju (Chest Centre abscess). This is a pyogenic condition that occurs around the danzhong (Chest Centre) point at the front of the thorax. The lesion is initially hard, mauve in colour and shaped like a chestnut, but it gradually becomes firey red, swollen and painful, and is accompanied by high fever and intolerance of cold.
