![During the year endecl 31st March 1966, 76 samples v/ere procured under the Pood and Drugs ^ict, 1955, within the Borough of Christchurch* Milk Samples. 58 samples of milk, including 13 of Channel Islands, v;erd taten and these were all satisfactory, there being no instances of adulteration or sub-standard quality. Miscellaneous Samples. 1. ij. sample of Marzipan proved to contain onl^'' 13 per cent of Ground ^dLraonds instead of the minimum of 25 per cent normally found in such a product sold by retail. ■ 2. A sample of what v/ere described as Lobster Tails v/as the subject of protracted correspondence v/ith the packers and further discussions on this uncompleted issue are to ta.ke place shortly. It wa.s thought that the product could not pro;X2rly be described as lobster and a name has yet to be found for it. 3. xi. dressed crab was found to conta.in 13 per cent of cereal filler, which is considered to be slightly excessive for an article of this type. 4. steak and kidney pie was found to contain 21 per cent of meat only, whereas 25 per cent is regarded as a reasonable minimum. 5. another meat ]pie v/as found to contain a piece of meta«.l, and lega.l proceedings were taken against the manufa.cturer. General. The usual attention v/a.s given to the requirements of the Labelling of Food Order and the Pharmacy and Medicines Act in connection v/ith their applica.tion to the labelling and description of food and drugs.
