Laboratory Facilities. No essential change has taken place in the laboratory arrangements during the year. The unit basis of ])ayment for the examination of specimens is now well established and works smoothly. Under the new National Health Service Bill, if it becomes law, the Minister has power to provide a bacteriological service, including laboratories for the control of the spread of infectious diseases. Nothing is said in the Bill about pathological services, or laboratory services attached to hospitals as at the Cumberland Infirmary, but presumablv the intention is that the laboratories will be transferred to the State along with the hospitals, and presumably Local Authorities will be able to utilise the services of these trans- ferred laboratories on terms to be sid)sequently decided.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b29133014_0021.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
