This volume is written in a very clear character throughout, on 308 pages, interspersed with three miniatures, St. Elizabeth, the Annunci- ation of the Virgin, and St. Katherine at the end: added to which are 16 beautifully arranged borders of flowers, fruits, &c., most of which are on a gold ground, thus giving effect to the colors ; it commences with the kalendar; and the capitals through the volume are richly coloured, and heightened with gold ; apparently the writing is about the middle of the 14th century. 260 Molesworth (Lord) Friendly Letter to Messrs. Dec. 20, 1650 262 Montrose (Duchess of) Autograph Letter to Mr. Gundry, 2s. - - Douglas Castle, Lanarkshire 263 (James Graham, Marquis of) Decree of Starre- Chamber concerning Inmates and divided Tenements in Lon- don, or three miles about, 4to, £1. 11s. 6d. 1636 The bottom of the title has a Poem of eight lines, in the Auto • graph of James Graham, Marquis of Montrose, and commences thus, “ Great, good, and just, could I but rate My greifes, and thy too sudden fate, I would weepe ye world to such a strain As it should deluge once againe, &c.” and signed “Montrose,” very rare. This heroic man was betrayed by his intimate friend Lord Aston, who was the cause of his execu- tion on the 21 st of May, 1650. To add to his indignity, they affixed the hook of his deeds about his neck. Note on fly-leaf, “This volume was formerly James’ Marquis of Montrose, and I bought it at Strawberry Hill sale.
