See Lampridius, &c, Salmaiius, on this paflape, calls Solinus a fool, and dreams about the old Artaxerxes ! Solinus alfo mentions Byzantium, fimply, not as Conkantinople, fo that he wrote before 330. But he alfq mentions the Getae, not by the name of Gothi, given them on their invafion 250, nor does he hint at that invafion; fo that he clearly wrote between 130 and *50, fay z4,o. The lad edition by Goeziu$ IS the work we have of any claiTic. Solinus deferves a better fate, for had Pliny perilhed, how great muft have been his value I As it is, his book is not a mere abftraa of Pliny, bpt has valuable additions. Statii Opera.
