I would also draw your attention to the fact that out ot the 21 deaths in the first week, 8 were under 1 day old and 7 over 1 day hut under 2 days, this giving 15 deaths which had ])robably occurred before even the notification of the birth liad been received. Poor Law Belief. In normal trade conditions the amount of Poor Law Belief dis- ti'ibuted bears favourable comparison to^ any of the surrounding districts. Hospital Accommodation. The needs of the district are supplied by the combined Cottage Hospital and Orthopie-dic Hospital at Beedyford and by the accom¬ modation still available at the Victoria Hospital, Burnley. The Poor Law Infirmary at Burnlev is also' available for necessitous t t cases. Sanitary Circumstances of the District. Water Supply. This is derived from two gathering grounds, one four miles distant on the east side of the town, known as Coldwell Beservoir, and one four miles distant on the west side of the town, known as Ogden Beservoirs. Coldwell Beservoir.—Capacity, 80,000,000 gallons ; filtration, 4 Bell’s patent vertical pressure filters; nature of water, good, moderately hard. Ogden Beservoirs.—Capacity, No. 1, 54,500',000 gallons; No. 8, 160,000,000' gallons; filLaticun, 1^2 Vertical Pressme filters; natui*e of water, good, soft. Total storage capacity of reservoirs, including yield of streams, 170 days’ supply. Approximate daily consumption, l,850i,000 gallons. Consumption per head of population in area supplied, 284 gallons. Curtailment of supply during 1920—Nil. BI VERS and Streams.
