About this work
Description
This documentary looks at the decade following the Second World War in which Britain was developing chemical weapons of mass destruction in secrecy. The programme is illustrated with much archival footage and accounts are given from scientists, historians and some of those involved in the research and production of these weapons. Young national service men tell of being used as human guineapigs at Porton Down with sometimes tragic results. We also hear about LSD experiments which were thought might loosen prisoners tongues when under investigation and a terrifying story of how a small fishing trawler accidentally sailed through an area of the sea the military had exposed to plague virus.
