![,[ 25 ] fubject: X think it therefore unneceffary to dwell upon it any longer; and shall now proceed to confider the com- parative merits of the variolous and vaccine inoculation. It cannot he denied, but the inoculation of the fmall pox has proved to mankind a ready means, to alleviate and escape the danger of a molt diftreffing disorder: ffill, not- withftanding thefe happy effects, the inoculated fmallpox is fomelimes accompanied with fymptoms, which give juft caufe of alarm, and often prove fatal under the moft judicious management. If I were to record all the diftreffing fcenes which fre- quently attend the inoculated fmall pox, or relate the fad hiffories of thofe unfortunate families, who in confequence of inoculation have felt the ragings of this dire disorder; the lioutelt heart would draw hack with horror, and drop a tear of pity over the fufferings of humanity.
