These little compositions are, in execution, light, spirited, and well coloured, but conceived in the most literal and prosaic style. For in- stance, in the sixth parable—the Lost Drachm (woodcut. No. 138)— the scene is the interior of a hovel; a woman, groping with a lamp (or a candle, I forget which), after seeking everywhere for her piece of silver, finds it between the chinks of her floor. In the Greek picture of the same parable, the scene is Paradise.
