    pain, though he was hindered from business for eight or ten days. This case seems to strengthen the idea that the me- dicine duly. administered, will protract the period of the gout’s return, as well as curtail the paroxysm and assuage its rancour ; if not,-in time, totally deprive it of its power. And it. has.restored to Mr. Jackson a considerable share of bodily vigour, of which the gout’s Jong usurpation had deprived’ him, | CASE I. In Edmonton, above mentioned, lives a Mr, BOULTON, aged from 50 to 55, by trade a butcher: aman more ‘regular in his habits than butchers often are; and diligent in his calling. For twenty years he had been subject to gout; seldom less than one, often two fits in the year. About the Sth of September, 1801, he was seized with gout in. both his feet ; which con- fined him to his bed. Mr. Jackson , above named, in- formed him what reliefhe had found, and advised him to proctre some of the same medicine which he had himself taken. But Mr. Boulton declined, saying— That for “a long time past he had been trying so many things, without effect, that he had made up his mind to let the gout have’ its own way in future. After lying in this state about tens days, his gout in, ‘creased in violence—rising to one of his knees, and., considerably contracting it. This gave him fresh alarm; as it never had cperated on him in that: “manner before. Mr. Jackson again renewed his pers suasions, and an application was made for the medicine
